I hated this idea too, but the more I think about it the more I realize it was their way of breaking free of the regional forms having to look extremely close to the originals. Now they can just make a Pokémon that sort of looks like it and follows similar conventions, but it doesn't have to be related. So these are technically regionals, just a more free version
