I think the protagonist is supposed to be a kid from our universe taken into the Pokémon world who in turn becomes the ancestor of the protagonist of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum.
This is heavily hinted at in the beginning by you not being afraid of Pokémon, and being familiar with catching them. You’re supposed to be a kid who plays the Pokémon games or some shit and you get isekai’d
