Its now one of two Japanese Pokémon cards in my Base Set binder collection.
The other being Japanese Base Set Jynx to show contrast between censored and uncensored version.

You can watch any number of box openings on YouTube, and invariably, they all get 2-4 shinings per box. And Neo Destiny packs are weird. You can technically get regular and shining holos out of light packs, it's just not very likely. This is of course why light packs are consistently cheaper than heavy packs.

I assume he means it's a lot relative to other vintage cards. To pick a totally random example, Jungle Flareon has fewer than 100 PSA 10s.
But to be clear, none of this says anything about the number of copies of each card. It doesn't seem likely there are more Shining Mewtwos in the world than unlimited Jungle Flareons, it probably just means that, for whatever reason, people are more likely to get shining cards graded.
Similar situation with Base Charizard. There are over 40k graded Charizards, and only about 8k graded Alakazams, but as far as we know, the pull rates for both cards were identical. People just want to grade their Charizards more (or maybe people held onto their Charizards or something -- who knows?)

I do feel like modern is begging for a market correction, but I don't know that it'll be a result of a bunch of desperate zoomers trading in their Sealed Collections for ramen or something. Collectibles are sort of strange in that they often hold value during economic crises. People have enough sentimental value wrapped up in their cards that they won't part with them unless things are extremely dire.

But I don't know if anyone really has much sentimental connection with their sealed modernshit. I feel like it's a lot of scalpers, flippers, and investorfriends who're primarily interested in speculation. I think these people could just get bored and sell their shit when they realize the ROI after 2 years isn't as great as they hoped.

Not pressure, but i have had to shift some budget things around. Half this thread won't know what i'm talking about because they still live at home but grocery prices are actually fucked compared to 2 years ago. Across the board it isn't just eggs. Gas bill has gone up a bit as well as insurance. Seems like everyone just wants to capitalize on lost revenue for the last 2 years and it's sad to say that this is the new normal

Found my aunts ex husband's collection sitting in storage. He gave them to me when I was 10. Lot of base set shadowless first editions. (Blastoise, mewtwo, etc, etc). Full team rocket first edition set, lots of gym challenge first editions. I've been sitting on them for a while wondering what to do with them? Should I send in the most valuable ones to get graded? They look pretty clean to the non-enthusiast's eye.

There's also a fuck ton of bulk commons that were stored badly and are all scuffed up on the sides. Like 30 shadowless red cheek and yellow cheek pikachus. Just wondering what you guys think.

grading 1st edition holos is probably worthwhile.

as a rule of thumb, don't expect anything to grade higher than a PSA 8, and probably don't grade anything worth less than $50 raw. (since grading costs at least $20/card anyway)

if you have a bunch of 9s/10s come back, then maybe the lower value cards are worth grading as well

the shadowless pikachus are probably best sold individually on tcgplayer or ebay. just load up on envelopes and toploaders and it's not too bad - get a label printer if you really want to speed things along

your blastoise looks good to me, not sure what the other anon is seeing

This is the back of one of the blastoise. One of them looks pretty pristine while the other is definitely more scuffed up. I can see a little white spot on the bottom right of this one though.

All of the holos were stored in binders and the ones toward the front are all extremely warped. Luckily the ones at the front were all base set two and unlimited jungle/fossil set. I have been realizing how incredibly lucky I am to have these.

Yeah, that's fair, anon! It's your collection and you should definitely enjoy it or do whatever you please with it. It doesn't even have to be holos (though that would be amazing), I'm sure your common and uncommon non-holos would still be of interest to many, including myself.

Post more photos! Seeing a childhood collection is always amazing.

For what reason would you want to do that?
As long as they are sleeved separately, not much could happen. At worst, they may get squeezed inside the toploader and it gets trickier to remove them.
