Poison was saved, which is indeed the best thing that came out of the type.
Steel was offensively saved (used to be the second worst attacking type after poison), but losing dark and ghost resists made those types a bit too strong offensively. I think steel needed another weakness (like electric which makes sense) more than less resists.
Dragon should have been resisted by Ice, which is a type that already had issues but the introduction of Fairy made them worse.
Bug was gutted, everyone agrees on that.
At least Ice is excellent offensively and ice types have access to exclusive moves like Freeze-Dry and Aurora Veil water types don't get.
The best thing about Bug as a type are U-turn and Quiver Dance which are not exclusive to Bug mons.
Fire got a Fairy resistance only because they had to shill Mega Blaziken (only gen 3 starter that originally got a Mega) and Charizard (only mon besides Mewtwo that got two).
Let's not even get started on the design direction of Fairy type pokemon, being randomly slapped on things that look cute/pink/feminine.
