And you know what turns women off more than bad looks? Total unearned arrogance. The second Atticus starts swaggering around like a Pompus Shakespeare Douchebag is the second people start to question, disrespect, and even outright disown him.
There are indeed some women in the real world who would put up with that. And even some women who could possibly mistake his arrogance for confidence. But Penny literally hangs out with the ANTI-BULLY PARADE, uh, I think somebody would notice and the whole Atticus situation would implode on itself.
