2v2 is pretty uninteresting to me when it's pretty much just 1v1 but with more mons.
IE : most of my playthroughs both as a kid and later as an adult would just be the same STAB spam fest as mainline games but with the added caviat that i could focus one mon or the other at the price of every turn being four times slower and maybe that one fight where a minor boss spams EQ+levitate.
The "difficulty" romhacks Grand colosseum and next gen are worth trying IMO since they "fix" the game by giving you and the CPUs interesting 2v2 toys, weather settling, spread moves, intimidaters and so on while being leagues from the bullshit level of difficulty of things like kaizo.
