Not intentionally, but a lot of times I've come up with concepts and then realized they might as well be regional forms.

No, I always tried to use animals they hadn't been inspired by yet. But this was back in the early days of the organized play booklets where you could get points for drawing and describing a pokemon. They even sent those books to Nintendo, so I always like to imagine a few kids having their dreams come true years later.
