Board quality is in the shitter lately, let's actually talk about games.

What are some of your Battle Frontier experiences? What Pokemon do you use? Any interesting strategies? Successes? Failures? Both Gen 3 and 4 are welcome

I was never very good at them since I'm not into competitive but I really liked gen 3's BF for being so weird and experimental. I wish they kept and expanded Battle Pyramid, Pike, Palace and Dome instead of gen 4s frontier being more or less just regular battling with restrictions, although arcade was an interesting continuation of Pike.

I also think the battle ranking system in the battle arena should have been implemented into contests.

They were both absolute dogshit and embarrassingly bad, nearly all of the facilities played like just easier gimmicky variations of the Battle Tower and the ones that didn't (Pyramid, Pike) were an absolute slog to get through, the literal only exception is Factory
There's probably a way to make a not-shit Frontier but I honestly couldn't think of it and the ideas people drum up are worse than the main game Frontiers (see Unbound for instance which basically is the 'modern Frontier' everyone wants and its so ridiculously unfun outside of the Tower).

I've always enjoyed the Battle Factory in gen 4's. I love having random Pokemon to use, gives me the chance to use Pokemon I normally don't use. Also like the Battle Arcade, pretty fun with the conditions you can set up.

I'm trying to beat the Lv50 Factory in HGSS but I feel like I'm always facing mons out of my league and getting btfo in rounds 3-5. I remember facing Thorton with a leaf storm venusaur while my team was nothing but NFEs.

You need to swap as much as you can in the early rounds as it increases the likelihood of being offered stronger Pokémon.

How were Arena and Palace easier versions of the Tower? Arena prevents you from switching and Palace doesn’t let you pick moves.

You need to swap Pokemon more. Every 7 swaps give you a Pokemon of the next set during the initial team draft. So at the very beginning, swapping every battle in the first 7 battles would give you one Pokemon from set 3 when you enter the Factory again.

Round 5 is when the Factory gets really hard because the set 5/open level set 2 Pokemon are mostly shit with weird ass movesets.

I don't know what they were thinking when they made some sets. Sometimes I run into schizomons like Focus Punch Chansey and Metal Sound Kabutops with physical moves.

You don't really switch in the Tower either, and the Arena's gimmicks mean all you do is run more offensively oriented teams than Tower which makes it quite a bit easier to go through.
I didn't say Palace was an easy Tower clone, I just didn't include it in the non-Tower clones that are absolute slogs to get through. Literally by far the most braindead and boring facility

I'm actually preparing for a gen 4 Battle Frontier run right now. I got of bunch of Synchronize Ralts with good natures.
I'm thinking of using Azelf right now. I heard Substitute with Calm Mind is very strong in the facilities so I wanted to try that with Azelf. I'm also wondering about running Nasty Plot or doing a Mixed set with Explosion. I'll need something to fight Weavile as well.

Not sure what teams you're running. You will still switch in many battles if you use a hyper offense setup, and stall, the most consistent Tower strat, is impractical in the Arena. The only thing that's easier in the Arena is you need fewer battles for the gold symbol.

The only "easy Tower clone" is the Dome.

L50 is easier because the Pokemon sets are more predictable. You will always have a rough idea of which group your initial draft and your opponents' Pokemon are from in L50 until round 7, while in open level it's until round 4.
