Why do retard who don't actually play the games post here? In the old games, Raichu's Pokedex entry referred to Indian elephants. In the most recent game, that reference is altered to Copperajah. It's a retcon. They're telling you that Indian elephants don't exist in the Pokemon world, only Copperajah.

Indian elephants were also mentioned in LeafGreen and as recently as Sun, oddly enough. Gen 7 is when they made brand new dex entries for every pokemon so it's weird that they kept that in. Also, fun fact Gastly's Firered dex entry also mentions indian elephants

Appearances and mentions of animals are limited to when there were only 151 Pokemon. Once there were enough Pokemon, they stopped showing animals.

It's called media literacy, and it's something you can learn by consuming media other than Pokemon.

They reference Copperajah instead of Indian elephant there because they prefer to shill their monsters if possible. If the Indian elephant reference was a mistake, they wouldn't have referenced it as late as gen 7.

They still wouldn't have referenced it if it was such a big mistake. They would have referenced some large Pokemon instead.

I thought everyone knew they use animal names FOR the pokemon?
Chicken = Torchic line
Dinosaur = Prehistoric Pokemon
Elephant = Elephant Pokemon
As late as the CURRENT GEN they make it clear they use general animal terms for pokemon

Yes, that's the key - the pokémon world uses the same names for general creatures as we do (fish, dog cat) while using different species names to the real world (bass, rough collie, tabby - basculin, lycanroc, litten).
It's meant to give kids the idea of what the creatures are supposed to be in its world, while not being a commentary on animals' canonicity to the world.
