I put it back in and quickly pressed through the title screen, only to be horrified when I realized a new game had started. I panicked and quickly called Nintendo's official helpline to see if there was any way to restore the data.
They asked me if I can caught Missingno. Truthfully, I had. The rumor made the rounds on the playground only days before and I caught one for laughs. The person told me Missingno is known to corrupt save files and it was my fault it happened. There was nothing I could do.
I'm still bitter.
