Managed to overcome my shitty camera and my shitty lighting to get a shot that shows the wrinkles. I also have a newer shiny rayquaza that's in much better condition, but I think it's kind of ugly.

They deny a LOT. It's really annoying. If you trade in enough you'll know the guys who are chill and the guys who are trying to jew you out. They'll mark your cards as MP and sell them LP/NM. Save your big trades for when the cool guy is in.

Some card shops will put out a buylist that list all the prices they'll buy a card for. Usually they'll accept all Vs, holos, and older gen reverses/holos. Never trade to shops that just pay you the TCGPlayer price with a mark down.

What do you guys think of Ace Grading and their custom art on cards?
I realize an ace grading 10 isn't worth anywhere near a PSA 10, but the case looks so much better than the generic white of PSA and other graders.

It's based on lots of factors, but the most important ones based on what I've seen are the quantity of boxes printed by the company, and how worth it the chase cards are. A good example from recent sets is Evolving Cries, it's a mediocre set but since it has a lot of chase cards for collectors, it will keep going up in value.

To be honest this is actually good, because as long as you don't care about mainstream shit like Gluraks and whatnot, you can grab things you like relatively cheaply even years after they stop getting printed.

But it did get me thinking, how would guys feel if they released shiny Pokemon cards that had the yellow border still instead of the upcoming silver borders? I think it'd be neat for more common shiny pokemon cards while Radiants can still be special cause of the foil pattern on the full card.

It was a great price, listed as "LP," but only because the shop appraises condition very conservatively. I really like Lost Origin and it was the set i was collecting the most. I noticed i have shit ton of cards including really rare ones (i dont have aero and giratina tho...) and ordered a vault x binder for Master Set.

If you had expendable income and wanted all that Silver Tempest, you did fine. I will say that instead of buying a bunch of ETBs, you could have just bought a couple of booster boxes. Only reason to buy ETBs to open is if you want the extra stuff it comes with (dice, coins, etc) or if you subscribe to the "everything is ratio'd/there's only a certain amount of hits in a booster box" narrative

You did fine anon. You pulled the second most expensive card in the set (Serena). Even if you don’t care about monetary value all that much it’s a good thing; if you want to keep that Serena card you’ll never have to buy it as a single, if you don’t care about the Serena you can sell it for a good price and use the money to buy more cards.

As far as what to do next I would urge you to really do some research and figure out what you enjoy the most. If you just really want to keep up with modern and rip packs then find out which sets are in print and have cards you truly enjoy. That way you can focus on buying sets that you like rather than gambling on packs where you might not pull anything you enjoy at all.

If you want to be more efficient in collecting then you should start buying singles of the cards you want to collect. Search TCGPlayer/Cardmarket and eBay to get a feel for what good prices are. Set aside a reasonable amount of time each week to check prices and buy things when you feel they’re affordable and unlikely to drop in the future.

Toploader binders are based. Expensive but worth it. Though they might slip around, I put some double sided fabric tape on the back of the toploaders to hold them in place

What binders do you use? I use the gamegenic 18 pocket ones (non zipper version), they look classy have a good touch feel and are rather high quality although they are a bit too pricey
