I will say though that you just don't understand your own analogy - choosing to stick with a franchise others have dropped is not as sad and weird as someone being mad for years about an admittedly minor design change. You can get over it - you can do so by just playing and focusing on another franchise. Pokemon is not so important that it needs to be a major focus of your life.
