Its always been this way. In Kanto they send you in loops around Route 1, in Johto it's route 29, in Hoenn it's Petalburg. The tutorials have always been there, even if you didn't notice it as much.

You have to recognize a move as "good choice" or "not good choice" and pokemon is an easy enough game in any gen that you can win against weakness.

Doesn't require literacy to try a move and notice that "CKSKLCIOW" seems to do a lot of damage and "IWLAC KAS" doesn't seem to work
