Dolphins live in the water, that’s their deal. Beavers make dams on the water, that’s their deal. Platypuses (fun fact to make you sound smarter, platypi is not a real word, platypuses is the plural. cactus is the only word with the -i plural because it comes from latin whereas octopus and platypus come from greek) are vicious fighters, they have claws, they have beaks, they’re venomous, they lay eggs; to base a Pokemon off of its aquatic habitat would be to ignore the laundry list of way more interesting attributes that platypuses have to base a Pokemon off of. All of the water type mammals we have, our seals, otters, beavers, etc, they’re water type because their aquatic habitat is the most notable part of their identity. Such is not the case for the platypus, their aquatic lifestyle is a bullet point at the bottom of a way cooler list. Normal/Poison, Dark/Poison, or Fighting/Poison with Swift Swim makes the most sense to represent everything, the water does not warrant a type slot.
