Can I / should I put a battery holder in my GB Pokemon cartridges? I don't really wanna put cheapo ebay batteries that last like five seconds in them.

pretty sure you either have to permanently mod the case or only use garbage like CR1616s which will last like 3-4 years tops.
Just solder in a 2032, they're cheap batteries to produce so you're not going to get fucked over by shit batteries unless you buy from literally some black market guy in China.

Normal ones won't fit properly. Search for HDR CR2Retainer. I'm not convinced the cost is worth it.

The HDR retainers take 2025 so considerably better than the other ones that have cropped up on the market, but yeah it's still pretty expensive for what really is just save data retention. It's better than having to desolder and resolder multiple times if you plan on touching them again in the future.
