Same here. I thought it was a Voltorb at first because the ball of string on its back is red. I ended up using mine though - it’s kind of useful with Gastro Acid / Sticky Web / Circle Throw.

He was pretty fun with all the utility, it's just usually you're not doing that kind of stuff in a playthrough, though I will say, since I played the game underleveled and constantly switched my pokemon every 5 levels, Silk Trap into Sturggle Bug was nice for a while.

If Spidops was a bad design people wouldn't make threads like this. The reason these threads exist is due to compfags that don't know how to use based shitmons in their games. He's a cool and memorable design.
