This is one of my favorite picture of the Kanto starters. I think it perfectly captures their cartoon designs with realistic creatures. They still have this cuteness to them where you can see why a kid would go, "I really like Charmander!". Some realistic depictions make the Pokemon way too scary or gross when they shouldn't be, or something like Detective Pikachu which just looks freakish.
People think real animals are cute, Pokemon should generally (obviously not every design) be the same.
