I really like how massive Mabosstiff's mouth is, that and the markings around the eyes really give it a deceptive feel where it goes from cute old dog to vicious monster in a flash.

I've also noticed that the popped vein just under his eyes looks like a little angry smirk if you only notice the bottom line. It always throws me off that the thing has no mouth even though the entire line has no mouth. It's just the way it's drawn

That, and the lore from Sun/Moon dex entries stating that some Primeape become so angry that they die always kind of implied going into cardiac arrest, either through blood pressure being far to high for too long and causing arterial disease, or takotsubo syndrome (look it up), or both—then when they designed Annihilape they gave it marks on the wrists where one cuff used to be and where the crack on the other is now which /could/ be muscles but look much more like veins.
So yeah, the broken cuff metaphorically does a great job of representing it being untethered from its mortal coil, but it also visually implies that when the Primeape evolved, it did so by elevating its blood pressure so impossibly, cartoonishly high that it shattered the metal bands it was wearing /and/ killed it.

Well, it’s kinda no brainer to make creature with samurai and beetle designs. Because in Japanese Rhinoceros beetles are explicitly called Kabutomushi ( ”bug in samurai helmet”)
