I actually like the story so cutscenes have never bothered me. I look forward to them, if anything.

If you mean the apricorn balls, handing an NPC one item and getting one item in return is not crafting, it's functionally a trade.

Alola has more cutscenes but Unova definitely started the trend. The time it takes you to catch your own pokemon in BW is painful.
