We need to look at the context. This was Infernape back even before the 2nd volkner battle or the 1 month time skip before the sinnoh league. In the sinnoh league infernape is supposed to be equal to pikachu now and pikachu tied with latios

It's tough, but I am going to go with Infernape because he has something to prove. All he is wants is to prove that he worthy of being with Ash on his journeys. Zard doesn't have anything to prove, but is very strong. It could go either way, but i think the ape has it.
