I think the bigger problem is that big topics like "wealth inequality" aren't ever really discussed in the context of Pokemon all that much because it's not important, even in Kalos the one time it actually genuinely affects a character in a real way is Emma in the postgame. Same thing with Cyrus and his middle school tier philosophy, it feels out of place.
The way to fix it is to try and make more stories focused on Pokemon, like BW did to mixed results, flesh out worldbuilding which they'll never do, or go back to minimalism like Gen 1/2. Not hard to see why so many prefer the latter even though its just a copout to avoid your games having shitty writing
