Not really related to the OP topic but the French name is Garde-de-Fer which is really cool cause it means Iron Guard but it also sounds similar to Gardevoir. I just thought it's neat.

I think the translators had no context behind the phrase "Iron Valiant". Type Null went through the same treatment and several Gen 1 moves also got mistranslated (e.g. Slam got interpreted as slamming a door).

The Spanish translations are good, they just use a lot of Spain specific vocabulary and that makes latinxs seethe. Back in Gen 1 a bunch of moves were mistranslated such as Counter and Slam, but it's not like the same didn't happen with the English translation anyway (like Finger Wag becoming Metronome)
