honestly as someone who doesn't play competitive what else do you expect people who play a competitive ladder to ask you when you're shoving opinions down their throat? It's their simulator and community anyway but a certain portion of /vp/ that either plays there casually or just likes to be contrarian can't help but lose their shit every time Smogon is even mentioned. Just stick to playing the games instead of getting mad maybe?

Monday, I reached 1044 after I used Wolfe Glicke's VGC team. Really had trouble against Eruption Torkoal sets, either by After You Liligant or Protect, Farigiraf uses Trick Room, Eruption.
Also Indeedee+Mega Man combo. Everything that had fire was a free win for the opponent.

Really sucks to be so low on ladder. Wonder how Wolfe managed to win with this shit team? :/

You sound like some one whose never played in a singles meta (or re-occuring tournament) where it was allowed and widely distributed. Crazy magikarp sweeps lose their novelty when everyone's trying to do it, and you have no idea how insufferably boring pure baton pass teams are to play against: My local lan scene to allowed it for a bit because people kept asking for it and we eventually banned it just because mirror matches would consistently run games to turn 50.

Besides it's easier to choose 0 Atk and that you don't have a spreadsheet to cheat/look up what moves your opponent uses I don't see any differences. Same set of pokemon, same ruleset.

Because you run into all sorts of shit on ladder , the best teams are those with a good chance against anything. Tournaments are a natural filter for most gimmicks or exceptionally risky strats, so tournament teams are generally more focused on dealing with the established set of top meta threats and checks. Especially a slow strategy like perish trap relies on being able to predict the general progression of a match.
