>>53207069The Pokemon Killer is an inherently untenable genre.
Yokai, Monster Rancher, TemTem... it's a fucking graveyard.
For all of Pokemon's flaws, it's one of the most versatile monster games out there. Want a single player campaign? It has that. Want to do multi player competitive with a fully fledge metagame? Done. Want to autistically hunt for Pokemon with slightly swapped color palettes? Check. All wrapped in a game with collectathon and social aspects.
The only game afaik that really tried to tackle that was TemTem and they were stupid enough to make it an MMO. Most of these games' monster designs or atrociously soulless or overly "monstrous". Other games like Monster Hunter are somewhat successful, but they only really excel at the single player aspect.
Pokemon's core design problem probably is that it's too many things to too many people, but that's also ironically its appeal. It's inherently hard to do all the things a core Pokemon game does. Not even Pokemon does them well.
