I'm a Cynthia fan and I do rank Leon among the best champions but like... "le undefeated" is just so goddamn forced and bad writing (even for Gamefreak's standards). Fanfic writers won't even resort to it, why do they expect us to take it without cringing? I'd genuinely rate Leon as one my favourites if he wasn't entirely one-dimensional (yeah, I know, common point about the Champions and NPCs, but after 20+ years they could've done a lot to expand on the plot of sw/sh considering it was the very first switch games and tons of us oldfags would've bought it for that alone if not for the dexcut, and also Leon is written with like, almost no room at all to headcanon shit unlike the other champions. All exposition but no hidden depths)

Every champion (except lance/alder) is undefeated (at least for a long time) until You get to them, why does that even matter? Genuinely doesnt.
Leon even takes an L to eternatus too

There are only 2 things that matter at all for champions tb h - design and the team/fight. Thats it.

Leon failed the first, the second is ok, but ruined by Charizard
Cynthia and Steven nail both.
Diantha and especially Geeta fail both.

Game wise I don't think it is stated aside from him being canonically undefeated. Although it is mentioned that Raihan could become a champion in other regions but sticks around in Galar in the hope of one day defeating Leon.
