>>53219752I disagree completely. The game opens up a lot after beating Misty and getting Cut. The non-linearity allows you to tackle gyms and obtain new pokemon in any order you wish. You can make a beeline for the Safari Zone or Cinnabar Island.
Or are you referring to the version of Kanto in the Johto games? The mons there are pretty weak yeah, though there are still some good ones available like Snorlax and Houndour.
