Staraptor might be the most optimal catch across any game ever. I have no idea why it was so overtuned. Luxray is actually kind of shitty to use in-game and is held up entirely by intimidate as an ability. Its prominence on teams is actually an indicator, to me at least, that Platinum's distribution is actually better than what people give it credit for. There are much better Pokemon to use, and if you insist on using an Electric type then Magnemite is easily acquired. Luxray is so common because an early route three stage Electric type just seemed appealing to people.
Absolutely shocked how few accounts of people using Houndoom I see. Everyone bitches about it not being available in Johto but then I almost never see anyone claiming to have used it in Platinum. I use it pretty much every playthrough.
