Not to be negative but I genuinely believe that the addition of gen 2 pokémon legitimately hurt the brand. They hit it out of the park the first time and yet bizarrely went on straight for something so bland without any of the charm.
Even as a fan of Johto and all the great things it brought it's hard for me to deny how when looking at the pokémon roster as a whole it's now a lot more hit and miss and no longer this nearly flawless monolith of charisma.
