I’ve never seen these before and it’s a fucking trip. Are those houses with monster signs next to them supposed to be where Pokémon were gonna be sold? Since the inns clearly indicate that this was from around that same time in development…

If Tajiri didn't work miracles and somehow convince Shigeru Miyamoto to support Pokemon for 6 years it would have been forgotten late gen Gameboy schlock.
Basically any other timeline than this one has Pokemon be either a dead-on-arrival franchise or one that was only mildly successful and then disappeared.

i want to bring it to everybody's attention that this is what Cinnabar Island was planned to look like at some point during GS's development. In fact, a lot of dungeons that were absent in the final game were present in some beta maps. Do you feel robbed?

That's clearly Viridian Forest and the Diglett Cave. That area hasn't been blocked off by gatehouses yet that would move you to the cell where the dungeon interior is located.

The Spaceworld '97 map leak was the most incredible archaeological discovery of our times.

I think I understand why they shifted from "All of Japan" to just Johto/Kanto in development was because they must have realized it was not a good idea to use up all of Japan for just their second game.

Had they not, they could not have done Hoenn or Sinnoh.

Probably was Cerulean Cave before they decided it would have for Mewtwo then relagated Moltres to the Victory Road with a room that was cut and restored in the Let's Go games
The biggest the devs had to face through was completely revising the Silph plot to give the impression it was being invaded with a few corrupt scientists than you cleaning a Team Rocket owned building

More like there was more shit they wanted to include in and around each major area, but were unable to due to technical constraints. They had to choose between either doing all of Japan but extremely watered down (like what they did with all of Kanto in the beta map), or trim it down to just Johto and Kanto and use the cartridge space to flesh it out better. because of this, they ultimately decided to give Hoenn and Sinnoh their own games under the same design philosophy - keep it restricted to a specific region instead of trying to cover everything at once, and focus instead on making it feel more like an actual place and less like walking on a road map with only a few select locations. It looks like they dropped that idea with X and Y, though - we got all of France crammed into a single map instead of focusing on fleshing out a few of the individual provinces; same thing with Galar/Great Britain, and Paldea/Spain (though Alola/Hawaii was understandable).

The sheer success of Pokemon made them re-examine it in 1998 and decide to turn it into a neverending franchise, though. Maybe? I know that the path to the Gigaleak has been closed, but it's unclear to me if the leaker and pals actually gave us everything. I understood it as they had more than what they shared so there might be stuff out there. But I feel like there's also not as much determined interest in getting access to that information. People wanted to see RBY / GSC because it was so early in the franchise and we had so many hints and teasers of what we had missed out on, plus it has the magic of being such an early time of the franchise that it's almost alien by today's standards. I personally would love to see RSE because it was such a big jump for Pokémon and I think people are sleeping on the potential of what they might actually have in the beta content there. But I don't think people are really going to dig for it. And I feel like with BW we might know most things? They did a pretty extensive explanation of where all the Pokémon came from and the development of that game, Dr Lava did a lot of the translation there. So I don't know what mysteries we really have other than maybe seeing some of the earlier designs for real or knowing how they landed on making Unova itself. I'm all for it though

I'm an old fag, I was already 12 when Generation 1 came out and I definitely remember all of the hype and the online rumblings going into every generation since. I 1,000% remember people playing the RS demo and coming back saying that the typings were different from what we got in the final product. I definitely remember people saying that Poochyena was weak to Water and there was something in there in the conversations where people were mentioning a Cyber or Mech type. Now this is the early 2000s internet where nothing was fucking reliable, even more than today, and nobody had any actual proof. But my high school brain picked up on those comments and I've never forgotten them. I would love to see a beta just to put that kind of shit to bed

Not really. I would have gone further and scrapped the Pokecenter and just left burned down/broken rubble everywhere instead. Then have NPCs in other towns mention what happened to the island. Blue can still be there for the initial info drop and to get him to show up at his gym.

From what I recall they don't exist, they could and should have been in the gigaleak but frontsprites data are stored in some incomprehensible way.

Pokemon Red & Blue were 1 MB games, including all of the text, graphics, music, game logic, etc.
The biggest Switch game is a little under 20 GB. A gigabyte is 1000 megabytes.

There was a Pokemon game like that, that was shilled here a few months ago, Pokemon Wilds. Kind of procedurally generated Pokemon Minecraft with Gen 2 graphics.
In the end it had the same issue as Minecraft, aka designed by someone with zero experience, so absolutely broken.

The joke is that, from everything we've seen, Gamefreak REALLY doesn't give a shit if people know about the beta Pokemon or not. Every time we've officially seen any of them, it was always done with zero fanfare. Gamefreak just doesn't care enough to bother releasing the designs.

Yeah my kids are super young, I didn't have kids until my 30s. My daughter loves Pokémon though. She's just a little kids so to her it's just neat to see all the Pokémon and learn their names and she likes all the cute shit. When she plays Scarlet She just likes to run around and look at them, Play dress up, I have the picnics, or try to catch something cute. And then when she's not around and I feel like it, I progress her through the story a little bit try to help her out by getting the item she might need to evolve something or leveling her Pokémon up. I mean she's in preschool, So she's obsessed with Pikachu and Eevee and Puff.

I faked it. I reverse engineered Pokemon gold, silver, and crystal source code and intentionally made the programming super incompetent as a joke. I did it in assembly, my favorite programming language, as a gag. I then proceed to do that 600 more times with very minor tweaks to the translation also as a joke. i then wrote code by iwata that wasn't incompetent as a joke. i also made a new bad gameboy emulator as a joke. I then drew hundreds of sprites ranging from barely started to completely finalized and wrote dex entries and fake moves for everything as a joke. I also wrote hundreds of fake emails, you guessed it, as a joke. i also intentionally programmed in bugs, made fake bug reports, and refused to address the bugs all for a laugh. and i did this in six languages as a joke. you all fell for it.
