I think its less about people hating HGSS Sabrina and more about being confused as the why she changed, especailly when most redesigns tend to not change as much.
though Sabrina is weird because she seems to change a lot between adaptions, even more so than other Pokemon characters.
She's often just portrayed distant and cold with a hidden soft side, but then you have the one manga were she's a full-on villain working for Team Rocket and another manga were she's a gentle sthine maiden.
