They're a joke. You only ever lose if you get terrible item luck, or terrible Monster House luck, or you're deliberately using something shitty. So...like how the Battle Tower in any normal game can screw you over and toss a Sheer Cold Walrein at you and if it decides not to you just mash A to victory.
