Heck, I don't even mind that they're kinda dumb. They could have worked a little harder after the early part of the game to make them feel impressive, but whatever. My real gripe is that they go "yeah, it's your buddy. You want to hang out with this one and see it do fun stuff, right?" You don't get a choice in the matter. They just push it onto you. It reminded me of the friendly Rotom-Dex that I didn't ask for either.
I get that it becomes your companion and acts as your bike, and it has a meaningful spot in the plot. That's not by default bad. But things can have ups and downs, and boy does this one have it in terms of player choice. It's like a total hit and miss on whether or not you'll like it.
