Ruby and Sapphire were the first zoomer games. Zoomers were 7 when they came out which is prime Pokemon playing age.

Dunno if it has something to do with ORAS specifically, but my X cartridge still works perfectly.
Both games were in their game cases nowhere close to water, so I don't think storing was an issue
