Basically take what gen 4 did with the stat trainers and expand them into larger side quests. The maingame would have to be expanded though.

I still feel that was a bit of a waste, a raid with your team of friends (even if it's mostly scripted) would be a cool first phase before having your balls locked and going 1v1

I suppose it would be like Unchained Blades. Every trainer is leader of a squad that attacks after the leader.
Or maybe like Persona, only the MC has a party of six while everyone else has only one Pokémon.
