Can't really say for sure. Though to tell you the truth I never had a problem with Fakemon honestly. I think we're long past the point of every one of them being a fish with a leaf and calling them pokemon. Especialky with the addition of fairy types and regional variants

Pretty sure “no inspiration from fans” means they just don’t look at fakemon, not that once they’ve seen a fakemon it’s design is written down in a “concepts we can never use” journal.
Otherwise “lion with a fire mane” would’ve been written off sometime around Gen 2.
