I am a fan of the Pokemon main series games, Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.
I think they were pretty good and, along with HeartGold and SoulSilver, contributed to making generation 4 a great one, with the perfect balance of single player focused content from the early generations and the more social online elements of the newer generations.

Pretty much.

People act like Diamond and Pearl are bad games, they're not. They're great games with some glaring flaws, which were fixed in Platinum, which made them redundant except for a couple of version exclusives. But the core elements of what made the Sinnoh games great were introduced in DP.

I think people just notice it's flaws more and appreciate what it brought to the series less as the series goes on. Kind of an inevitable aspect of perspective.

For me, personally, I have a good amount of fond memories with gen 4. I was in high school all throughout that gen and I remember playing DP, Platinum, and HGSS with my friends. We had gotten old enough that we were over the whole "Pokemon is so cringe lol" phase, so we'd keep each other updated on our progress/discoveries, battle, trade, etc, basically all the shit I was too young to figure out how to do in gens 1 and 2 lol. This was also when I was smart enough to meaningfully engage with the internet, and gen 4 was an amazing time for that as well, obviously.
Call me bias, sure, but these are real experiences that I and surely many others had and they were only possible because the games facilitated that sort of thing so well.

Literally nothing about the singleplayer is good compared to other pokemon games and the online is incredibly barebones. Lack of matchmaking for a DS game is retarded. The entire generation except for HGSS feels like they just forgot what makes Pokemon games actually good so they just poorly repeated everything they already did in gen 3.

On the contrary I found that the systems in the Sinnoh games worked well together. VS Seeker rematches makes grinding a breeze compared to the every game before the new exp share and it provided a lot of money to get the strong Game Corner TMs. Whatever distribution problems exist is easily offset by getting a Flamethrower TM. Teaming up with the Stat Trainers is also a great way to grind exp. The Underground is great for getting shards, heart scales, fossils, and evolutionary stones all in one place. It's actually very easy to get a Lucky Egg compared to gen 3. All the starters are viable and have fun movesets. All in all, I'd soon play Plat over plenty of other games.

not really. the problem with gen 4's distribution isn't that most of the mons are garbage(though many are), it's that finding anything is a pain in the ass

I have, I like raising pokemon, I'm not in a hurry to reach the credits but I don't want to train with very little exp either.

Getting a Flamethrower TM helps with teambuilding, which is all that matters.

there are 95 pokemon lines in the Platinum Pokedex, by my count. of them.
>3 are starters
>7 are legendaries, one of which is Manaphy which is completely unobtainable
>6 are exclusive to honey trees, one of which is Munchlax which may as well be completely unobtainable
>4 are DP version exclusives that can't be encountered in Platinum
>2 are fossils which are locked depending on your trainer ID
>4 need to be traded in order to fully evolve
>6 need to be traded with an item to fully evolve(not counting Steelix because you can find it in the wild)
>3 can only be found in the Safari Zone, with 2 more on daily rotation
>4 require finding a hidden item to reach either their final evolution or one of their potential final evolutions
>3 are Drifblim, Spiritomb, and Milotic, which all have their own stipulations I'm not gonna go into
subtracting all of those leaves 53 lines you could encounter by walking around, surfing, or fishing.

I'm glad you enjoyed gen 4. I think they are good games stuff with a lot of content but I just think it has a poor presentation. Going from gen 3 to 4 the framerate drop makes gen 4 and 5 look like a slide show. It wasn't until gen 6 that the games got an acceptable presentation again. Many people think gen 4 and 5 are peak of the franchise but they are really rough around the edges. I can manage a full playthrough but I don't linger in those games like I do in others.

Even if we don't agree on what we like I'm glad everyone has pokemon games they enjoy. The "pokemon was never good" weirdos need divine intervention.
