the whole "bodyguard" and "lady" thing is just an initial misunderstanding sustained for comedic effect, but as the story goes on they grow to genuinely care for one another because they realise the gravity of the situation they are in with team galactic
it's an unbalanced relationship at the beginning but they all end up helping and valuing each other equally
there are large portions of the story where they aren't even together, so it isn't as if they are literally her lowly servants
and even though platinum is a rich girl character, she stops being snooty and arrogant as the story progresses and becomes more friendly and open

a separate platinum arc is basically advertising specifically to try to convince readers to buy the 3rd version of the game, what the author will do with that arc is ultimately up to him. i just treat the platinum arc as part of the same larger arc with the rest of diamond and pearl
