You will never be a real e-sport.

You have no skill ceiling, you have no tactical decisions, you have no meaning. You are a children's RPG twisted by manchildren and autists into a crude mockery of competitive gaming.

All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back people mock you. Your publishers are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “developers” laugh at your feeble attempts at balance behind closed doors.

Gamers are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of evolution have allowed men to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even metagames that are "casual” play uncannily and unnaturally to a player. Your excessive RNG is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a casual player to try VGC, he’ll turn tail and bolt the second he hears the words "damage ranges" or "banlists".

You will never be fun. You wrench out a meager tournament payout every single year and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the lack of playership creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll end sponsorships, kill support for Play! Pokemon, cease hosting tournaments, and plunge into the cold abyss. Your company will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to live with the unbearable shame and disappointment. They’ll end support for you with an apologetic e-mail, and not a single player for the rest of eternity will care you're gone. Your "competitive scene" will decay and go back to the dust, and all that will remain of your legacy are a small gaggle of soulless Smogon players.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.
