It also helps that her and Rosa and Serena are all the oldest protags. Serena is the oldest and at least is competent in that regard with that particularly ideology. Rosa while girly has at least a sort of bubbly tennis girl vibe going for her.
You have to remember, that designs really go a long way, and they're all girl at the end of the day, but the way they're generally portrayed with said clothes and overall design speaks volumes. Hilda has that sort of tomboyish look and typical male protagonist design despite being female. For May/Kris, May would likely be within the top 5, but her age is very clear compared to the others, so her maturity/age drops her competency, and Kris doesn't seem competent at all. More like a bored hall monitor or Professor in training that is never going to make it.
