Why are people who think gen 4 graphic is good also the people who think gen 5 graphic is trash?

Cause if you like the gen 4 art, the gen 5 art is just different enough to look off.
For me, it's the character sprites (I the long skinny arms), the warping when they do weird perspective shit and the tweening of the Pokemon sprites. Tweeting with pixel sprites looks fucking awful in my opinion.
But in the end, it's just a question of taste.

Gen 4's low res sprites were not suited for the active zooming battle camera setup in Gen 5 which caused nearer sprites to awful and pixelated. Plus the stiff animations using old sprites looked terrible and lazy.

This would have been a great opportunity to introduce higher resolution pixel art and more fluid animations as a send off to the 2D era but they stuffed it up.

Personally, Gen 4 just has a much cleaner look to it. The spritework in Gen 5 is just too ugly and messy

I think every gen for the first 5 Gens had graphics that were the natural evolution of what came before. I’ve warmed up to the gen 6 Chibi’s for sure but the tile based top down big head look just doesn’t work as well in 3D, and then of course gen 7 abandoned any cohesive style all together

What? Gen 3 sprites are awful compared to gen 2, despite having four times as many pixels per sprite. And gen 2 even had unqiue ones for both versions to at least somewhat justify the existence of split versions.

No, Gen 5's graphics are flat out worse than Gen 4's. The 3D buildings somehow look uglier and GF can't animate sprites to save their fucking lives.

Because the gen V battle sprites look awful. You can't rotate raster images without pixels shifting. They didn't even try to redraw the parts they moved to clean them up.

What I've learned is that people don't actually think the sprite based games are high quality, it's just that they've lowered their standards so fucking much from never having played a single other sprite based game in their life that they just assume any sprite GF shits out must be good.

It's all just bargaining from people who are unhappy with the current state of Pokemon, but for whatever reason - whether it's brand loyalty, sunk cost, or something else - can't bring themselves to admit that Game Freak was never good at anything. So instead they draw these nonsensical lines in the sand for where GF supposedly "went to shit," even though the sprite-based games they liked were always primitive compared to others.
