Agreed. 3D models of Pokémon fail hard. They look lifeless and boring. They're also the stated reason Gamefreak won't put every Pokémon in the games: it takes too long to animate every Pokémon doing all the required movements. Switch back to dynamic 2D pixel art and just increase the levels of detail and SOUL.

I don't really think so, it was a LATE DS game and it looked like ass compared to other JRPGs at the time.

Also, many of the animations in-battle look like shit, some are nice, like Venusaur but you can tell after making him they said "fuck it" and mostly reused most GEN IV sprites and did some flash-tier animations on most of them.

I don't know why don't they just fucking outsource the animations, they have the capital to do so. And btw, when SwSh dropped, all previous pokémon already had high-poly 3D-models and walking animations which went unused in Gen VII

2D is only more difficult if you're going out of your way to fully animate everything with a fuckton of high resolution sprites and/or art.
otherwise 3D has way more hurdles and developmental steps, especially when it comes to having it interact with the various environments and animations in the game
