He's supposed to win because le power of friendship. The pokemon anime clearly doesn't actually reward hard work or expertise, which explains why lazy ass zoomers who feel entitled to handouts (so, most of the newfags who found /vp/ during the lockdowns/the posters who stayed NEETs into their 30s) love Ash so much, because it's literally the wish fulfillment W for them that they couldn't have in real life
so really, disdain for ash/the anime is basically the litmus for good taste and being a mature pokemon fan
