>>53310142It’s honestly really interesting seeing how long it took Flying to get a pure rep.
>Normal, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Bug, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Psychic, DragonAll Gen 1 types and got their pure rep in Gen 1
>Rock, Ghost Gen 1 types with their first rep in Gen 2. Surprising because Rock is a simple element to design for, but since it was entangled with Ground in Gen 1 makes some sense. Ghost only had one line in Gen 1 so not super surprising.
>Ice Gen 1 type that got its first pure rep in Gen 3. Really surprising imo because its closest comparisons are with Electric and Fire as standard JRPG elements. Plus there was the beta yeti/Jynx guy to go with Magmar/Electabuzz. Even if we don’t count Castform we have Snorunt/Glalie and Regice.
>Dark Gen 2 typing with a Gen 2 rep. An Eeveelution, and it’s already their job to rep their type so it’s pretty good rep. Even if Umbreon was meant to be Poison-type originally.
>Steel Gen 2 type, first pure rep was in Gen 3 with Mawile. Personally when I look at Mawile without context I wouldn’t guess Steel, and it was later retyped to dual /Fairy. Registeel represents the type really well but it’s kinda funny to see it’s technically a retroactive Tornadus situation since the first regular pure Steel-types were the Klink line in Gen 5.
>Fairy A Gen 6 type that not only added 4 new pure Fairy lines (Sylveon, Florges line, Slurpuff line, Aromatisse line) but also changed a lot of Pokémon so its “first pure rep” (Clefairy) exists before the type and sums the type up pretty well.
>Flying Gen 1 type, first pure rep was in Gen 5. Doesn’t even have a fully evolved non-legendary pure rep to this day. It’s been fun seeing them slowly change their mind to “literally things that fly” to “that and sorta air-type” even though wings and stuff still dominate the type. It’s such a weird philosophy that makes sense when Bird was going to be a type and likely leave room open for “Air”.
