I played PLA and SV, and literally none of these things significantly detracted from the experience. Are there any other reasons to hate on gen 8, or did the review bombing neckbeards trick me into skipping it for no reason

The shills take any argument that annoys them and overblows it as the reason people hated it, when it was actually one of many reasons to hate it.
You can only bubble up the issues like this so much before you’re swimming in bubbles.
It’s a combination of bad design decisions surrounding the game that makes the experience very lacking.

I think the dexcut encourages you to use new mons and exp share doesnt penalize you for wanting to swap mons in and out of your team.

I also still think the full dex should just automatically unlock when you beat the main game and the games would benefit from scaling levels on enemies.

Bad marketing can really fuck up any impression of a game.
Gamefreak literally didn’t recover from that massive fuck up of a marketing stunt, the fact that they literally stopped having interviews since E3 2019, should tell you how fucked it is.
And it was all Masuda’s decision to randomly mention the Dex Cut while the giant Treehouse Livestream was showing how ugly the Wild Area was. It was the funniest shit to witness live.

Heres the thing, if they were just honest and said the dex cut was needed to ensure the game came out on time I don't think people would've gotten that mad about it. Game Freak kept backpedaling and trying to make it seem like not only was the dex cut a good thing but beneficial to the overall experience in some fucked up "less content is a good thing" mindset. Only for them to pretty much bring back most of the cut Pokemon anyways through the expansion packs, proving it was entirely due to development and if SWSH wasn't rushed to stores there wouldn't be a dex cut in the first place.

You were tricked. Sword/Shield were some of my personal favorites, but the reason why they were good was purely how much attention they gave the multiplayer. There's no longer any events and Battle Competitions, so it's probably dead for battling. These games were wrongly hated for trends they didn't even start by people who didn't even play the game.

It has cool ideas but they don’t go far, it was very generic and not as bad as people exaggerate but it’s not worth praising either. The graphics aren’t super bad, and I would argue some of it’s nice parts are cleaner than both PLA and SV, but the problem is that it’s very unorganized that the constant clash of gold and sloppy graphics is very distracting vs atleast being consistently ugly

The game wasn’t fun, Dynamaxing ruined the idea Totem Pokemon started, the linear routes were okay but going to the wild area makes the ugliness stick out, Team Yell and Marnie were extremely useless and unmemorable, Rose Tower is the stupidest moment in a Pokémon game, the only things I liked was Bede and Piers, and they still didn’t go to their full potential

If there's one thing in particular I disliked about SwSh it would be that there's no incentive to revisit older areas with new abilities as you don't really get any new abilities over the course of the game, but that's ultimately minor and there's a ton of exploration you can indulge in anyway, especially with the DLCs.

speaking of team yell they are bad i like the aesthetic and the idea of hooligans team in a region very sport focused or pokemon battles are real sports but until they help you to find leon towards the near end they are totally useless barriers to keep you from exploring the rest of the region which kinda sucks even team skull did a better job IMO

the idea of hop being the brother of the undefeated champion thus having pressure on his shoulders given the family expectations is genuinely a nice idea but little explored hop doesn't have enough moments in the game where he loses and maybe he has to change professions because he can't become champion

not even marnie was fleshed enough the idea of marnie wanting to help spikevile by becoming champion could be explored better and they could pierce as big brother in charge of the marnie fan club where he too tries to stop you then having a moment with him and his sister who they talk about solving it and starting to support their sister without hindering the other participants

bede
bede is a nice character he is an asshole but he is also a genius of the fight and he does it to make rose proud by repaying him for the help he has given him he seems to be the most explored character in the game for now

zacian and zamazenta could have a more present role in the form of ghosts or hallucinations as in the Slumbering weald telling a little more about the darkest day by foreshadowing on eternatus through a memory or flashbacks

people always complain about rose and its 1000 years but he was in character being a philanthropist who prioritizes the whole region and always wants to do it in public to be adored he wants to be seen helping the region and why not do it during the biggest galar tournament on the giant screen showing itself to everyone but again not explored enough

Wrong it limits your selection of old Pokémon you never used before and it prevents you from using newer Pokémon in the remakes. How exactly is not having the option to trade a Galar and Alola Pokémon to BDSP for a unique experience encouraging new Pokémon use

This, that E3 was one of the funniest things I've ever witnessed. I was actually enjoying the Wild Area gameplay somewhat, thought it was cool you could encounter massively overlevelled wild Pokémon, then one of the interviewers asked that question and Masuda dropped the bombshell.
Immediately, I was like "wait what," and you could see the rest of the chat devolve into autistic screeching in a matter of seconds. You could even see the interviewers being kind of like "wtf" when the translator mentioned the DexCut. Not quite as kino as the Wii Music demonstration, but this is one of the funniest moments in recent years for sure.

It does detract from the post game of SV.
Doing things like transferring old teams and getting their movesets adjusted for better things as well as Champion Ribbons was half the fun of preDEXIT generations.
PLA avoided such a thing by only having a hidden ribbon at one place not story related.
But SV has a new Champion ribbon, as well as new title marks that can be gotten on old mons.
It's little different than how people keep jonesing for Home update. They want their Hisuian peeps in full glory.

No, Home being on a delayed update does that.
The dexcut doesn't do anything for your playthrough. Because the problem with it was never about being able to catch Pikachu for the 5000000000000th time. It was about being able to bring that random shiny you found, or your ribbon mon, or just your previous team to the new region in the post game and enjoy things with them.
It extends the time people would play that game.

There's also competitive things too, but I don't care about that. Though while I don't, some do... So it should be acknowledged.

The only unique things about the game are the dynamax raid battles, and they're super unfun garbage, from the abysmal Y-Comm system to how trivial 99% of the raids become with the legendaries, you actually spend more time in menus and cutscenes than battling.
I'll concede that the character designs are pretty good, but literally everything else is a mind numbing boring mess, and no, the dlc didn't save the gen.
S/V is just as bad, even if you ignore the performance and the bugs, it's a game that tries to focus on giving you freedom to explore a world with absolutely nothing in it

You basically rush from gym to gym without even trying because the routes are designed like shit, and there's barely any of them in the first place. Galar is barely a region. The wild area feels like some shit from a pre-alpha version of an open area. It's the only time a just completely dropped a Pokemon game because I was that bored.

Literally all there is to do is fly from city to city to fight easy battles against the bognadoff twins dynamaxed monsters and then it's over.
It has less of a post-game than the original Red Blue games since fighting Mewtwo and going thru the cave took longer than that.

Disagree. I find it more satisfying to do multiplayer with monsters I actualy found and raised than just pressing Showdown buttons.
I mean what is the fun of Single Player? The writing is always bad, so it can't be the story. The battles are always easy for anyone older than 7. At that point the only worthwhile part of the games for people that aren't kids playing their first RPG ever is multiplayer, with the added bonus of seeing cutesy cartoon graphics and listening to neat music while finding the monsters and items you need.

I agree that for the majority of it, single player acts as a tutorial. But then they should just improve it rather than just let it stagnate. It's not like the multiplayer options are that much better either, you're pretty much stuck with raids and battles with the occasional trade, and the online battle options aren't that in-depth. They could add more new permanent formats or modes to play in multiplayer at the very least.
