The consensus wasn't that Crystal was bad, it was that it was too similar to GS, it really wasn't worth getting if you already had GS (and most fans did have GS) Not only that but it was released less than a year after GS (compare that to other remakes that are usually two or more years after) making GS still fresh in people's minds and making it even more apparent how little Crystal changed. On top of that, it wasn't even backward compatible with the Original Game Boy like GS were.. Which is a shame because the few things it did add are underappreciated like the animations.
