Gens 1-4 based on specific prefectures in Japan gen 5 and 7 based on specific states in merica. Gen 6 is France, just all of France.

Gen 5 is not solely based on New York. New York does not have deserts, cowboys, and tropical seaside villages.

Gen 5 is the odd one out. New York city is tiny they could have easily done California and got the same game design wise

It’s the tri-state area re-imagined. I liked it way better than them trying to make modern NYC but Pokémon.
If they want to make an Americana poke-city, they should do Chicago, just a without certain “elements”.
