I totally get not forcing auto-updates though, that's a reasonable change, but I'm pretty sure the 3DS games have the prompt for this exact fucking reason. Hell, the system won't start certain games if you don't have the right firmware. There's a number of ways this could have been prevented, but it simply wasn't.
Also, does SV have autosave? Because that takes one step of the problem out of the player's hands if they make the mistake.
