It's funny because DPP are generally seen as edgier than previous gens
I don't think that was a coincidence on GF's part
Up until gen 6 I think they intentionally grew the franchise with it's fans

In what universe is that true? At worst people might think you're putting on airs depending on how you bring it up, but nobody is going to be screeching at you because you read books.

I didn't go through that phase but I did stop playing before gen 3 because I gamesharked my charizard out of existence. I was just too sad to play it anymore and I decided I was going to do other things. I remember seeing commercials for ruby and saphire and thinking double battles are cool and saying, "well thats cool im glad theyre adding that." I didn't pick up a pokemon game again until platinum because all my band friends in high school were playing it, and I felt enough time had past.
