The special split allows for more diversity in stat spreads, you can have a Pokemon high in SpAtk, or SpDef, without it needing to be both. In that regard, I like it. However in practice its just different, not an outright worse system. Amnesia being strong wasn't really that big of a deal, as it was meant to be-- an equivalent now would be something like Victory Dance or Quiver Dance. Something being strong isnt a bad thing, and only Slowbro and Mewtwo used it anyways. The fact that Special drops mean both an offensive and defensive drop creates a different dynamic in Gen 1 comp, especially since its something you can actively fish for.
So in short, no, I disagree, as it's not an obectively better or worse system.
