What's the point?
They feel like pokédex filler. Maybe they'd be more useful if they learned moves their evolutions can't learn

They were meant to be for world building. Not every human trains and evolves their Pokemon to their highest evo and early stage/baby Pokemon would make good gifts for in-universe kids.

That last point alone should make you glad that Happiny exists. Do you really want to fight an Eviolite Chansey in Little Cup? Also, as >>53353212 puts it, not everything has to be about end game competitive battles, which is something that even Game Freak forgets.

Theoretically, they SHOULD be a way to feasibly get access to stronger pokemon lines early without completely breaking the game. And sometimes they were, but way after the generation they were introduced in, which is retarded but fine, they EVENTUALLY fucking did it so whatever.

I still can't fathom why Chingling exists though. Chimecho itself was already a literal dex-filler afterthought, plus it was already a babyish looking cute thing. There was absolutely excuse for giving it a pre-evo.

The problem with babymons is they don't commonly show up in the wild until like the 3D era which is dumb
They're not bad just as regular first stages
They were created to promote the breeding mechanic but it just wasn't a good idea to do it this way

I find it unfair that some pokemon have baby forms and some don't. Every non-legendary pokemon should evolve at least once, Khangaskan gets a pass because it has visibly distinct babies. But mons like Pinsir, Skarmory, Zangoose, Seviper and Tropius should have baby versions, it makes no sense that they come out of the womb like that. Like, for what reason does Sawsbuck have a fawn equivalent but Bouffalent and Tauros have no calf equivalent (if Tauros got one, it should be a branch evo that could evolve into either Tauros or Miltank)? It's just not consistent.

most baby mon are exclusively in eggs, and in most games some of them can only be bred when their parent is holding a specific item. Elekid and Magby in B2W2 are the only instance of early wild encounters.

Toxel, Togepi, and Riolu are okay. They were introduced in the same gen as their evolutions.

What I hate is when a new gen introduces a baby evo to a previous gen pokemon.
The devs wasted a pokedex slot by intentionally taking a pre-existing pokemon and making it weaker.
